Professional Heavy-Duty ECU Training for North American Tuners
Hands-on, real-world calibration training for commercial trucks, construction equipment, and agricultural machinery. Designed for beginner and intermediate tuners who want a deeper, structured understanding of how modern diesel ECMs truly work.
The Premier Heavy-Duty ECU Training Experience in North America
The heavy-diesel tuning industry has grown rapidly, but structured, practical education has not kept up. Shamrock Tuning Academy fills that gap by offering in-person, high-value training that focuses on the logic behind calibration, not just button-clicking.
Delivered in Calgary, Alberta and open to attendees across Canada and the United States, the Academy is built for technicians, shop owners and tuners who want to learn how to identify maps, understand strategies and work confidently inside real calibration files.
Training Format
Two-Day · In-Person · Hands-On Training
Students learn how to analyze, interpret and break down modern ECMs in a way that builds long-term understanding, not dependence on pre-made files or templates.
Two full days of guided instruction
Hands-on learning with real calibration files
Instructor-led exercises in map identification, pattern recognition, and definition building
A preconfigured WinOLS environment so every student sees the same layout
Small class sizes for maximum interaction
Structured analysis of OEM calibration strategies
Real-world workflow demonstrations used by working heavy-duty tuners
What You Will Learn
Below are the core topics covered across all Academy courses, whether you choose On-Road, Off-Road, or both
ECM Architecture & Calibration Structure
How modern controllers store logic, diagnostics, and map data
Memory layout fundamentals
Operators
Map Identification & Pattern Recognition
How to visually identify meaningful tables
Recognizing torque, fuel, airflow, and limiter structures
Finding related maps within calibration regions
Understanding how tables interact with each other
Calibration Analysis
How OEM strategies influence power and torque
How to compare calibrations meaningfully
Interpreting differences between variants or power levels
How to spot intentional design patterns across platforms
Definition Building (Mappacks)
How to build your own map definitions from raw binaries
Verifying accuracy and proper scaling
Applying ECM-specific factors, axes, and units
Exporting structured, usable definition files
Diagnostic Structures
Understanding SPN/FMI relationships inside the ECM
Identifying diagnostic regions and table linkages
Pattern recognition in DTC-related calibration blocks
Practical Tuning Workflow
A structured approach to analyzing unfamiliar ECMs
Best practices for safe, consistent calibration changes
Developing a repeatable process that applies to all platforms
These skills apply to all major commercial-diesel platforms, including on-road (Cummins, Volvo, Detroit, Paccar) and off-road (Caterpillar, John Deere, CNH, Komatsu).
On-Road & Off-Road Training Paths
Shamrock Tuning Academy currently offers two specialized 2-day programs:
On-RoadHeavy-Duty Training
Focused on engines used in:
Highway tractors
Vocational trucks
Commercial freight fleets
Typical platforms include Cummins, Volvo/Mack, Detroit, Paccar, and similar on-road controllers.
Off-RoadHeavy Equipment Training
Focuses on diesels used in:
Agricultural machinery
Construction & industrial equipment

WinOLS is used as the analysis tool, not the subject of the course
Students must arrive with a fully licensed version (no demo versions)
A preconfigured WinOLS profile is provided for the course
You will learn to analyze ECM logic inside WinOLS, not master the software itself.
Advanced WinOLS training is available separately through our partner Viezu
WinOLS License Requirement
All attendees must submit their WinOLS license number prior to the course to confirm legitimacy and ensure compatibility with course materials.
Optional remote setup support (via AnyDesk or TeamViewer) is available to ensure your installation is ready before arrival.
F.A.Q.
Who is this training designed for?
Beginner tuners
Intermediate tuners looking to accelerate their skills
Shop owners wanting to bring tuning in-house
Technicians transitioning into calibration roles
Anyone working with heavy-diesel engines (on-road or off-road)
What do I need to bring?
A Windows laptop capable of running WinOLS
A full, paid WinOLS license (demo versions are not supported)
Your WinOLS license number (required before attending)
Power adapter + mouse
Is prior tuning experience required?
No.
The training is structured to support beginners but delivers enough depth for intermediate tuners to gain tremendous value.
Do I need to know WinOLS?
No.
WinOLS is used as a viewing and analysis tool, and students are given a standardized configuration file to follow along with. The course is not a replacement for full WinOLS training.
Will you help set up WinOLS?
Yes.
Registered attendees may schedule a one-on-one remote pre-setup session.
